WayNear guide

Find a place before it closes — with time left to stay

Finding a nearby business is only half the decision. You also need to know whether you can get there before closing, and whether it will stay open long enough for what you want to do.

The last-minute search problem

Imagine you want to sit down for a coffee but the first nearby option closes in 25 minutes. A 15-minute walk would leave only ten minutes after you arrive. Simply filtering for businesses marked open now does not resolve this trade-off.

Set a minimum remaining opening time

WayNear allows you to specify a minimum amount of time before a place closes, together with your walking-time limit and preferred place type. It checks the selected conditions when building a shortlist of up to ten nearby matches. A higher minimum can reduce the number of results; that is expected because every selected condition needs to be satisfied.

Use the results to make a decision

The result list lets you compare walking time and opening information without opening every map pin. You can sort the available matches, choose a suitable option and open walking directions in Google Maps. The search is designed to reduce manual checking rather than predict whether a business will change its hours.

Allow for real-world uncertainty

Opening hours can be inaccurate, especially on holidays or for businesses with special schedules. Estimated travel time is not a guarantee of arrival time. For important visits, confirm hours with the business and allow a margin before closing.
