WayNear guide

Find places open near you — and open when you arrive

A place can be marked open now and still be a poor choice if it closes before you can reach it. A useful search needs more than a list of map pins: it needs to account for how long the walk takes and how much time remains before closing.

Why “open now” is not always enough

Suppose a café closes in 20 minutes. It may appear in an open-now search, but if the walk takes 18 minutes, you would have almost no time there. Another café that takes 10 minutes to reach and closes in two hours may be a better choice. Those details matter when you are deciding where to go, not just what is nearby.

A more practical way to search

With WayNear on Android, choose a starting point and place type, set a maximum walking time, and specify how long places should remain open. You can also set a minimum rating. The app returns up to ten nearby matches that satisfy the selected filters, which you can sort before opening walking directions in Google Maps.

When this is useful

This approach is handy when you have limited time in an unfamiliar city, want to find a shop before it closes, or simply prefer to avoid tapping through multiple map results. The aim is to narrow down options before you decide which one deserves a closer look.

Keep opening-hour data in perspective

Business hours and route estimates come from third-party data and can be incomplete or outdated. If a trip is important or a place is about to close, confirm directly with the business. WayNear helps compare options; it cannot guarantee an opening time.
